Ice Dragon Mobile Wallpaper
Nagnth is an ice dragon of Gamar in Khalki, Eelarga. He’s bonded to a young boy by the name of Alexei (at least for now that’s the name. I realized I have an Alexandray and an Alexei in the same city).
Snippet from Gamar’s Heir (working title)
One moonstep Alexei walked up to Nagnth and commanded him. “Bring back food.”
The dragon stared the boy down. Alexei placed his wrist on the dragon’s foreleg, since Nagnth didn’t lower his snout to him. Repeating the command, Alexei waited. Saba’s heart shriveled within him as no white glowed from the boy’s tattoo.
“Nagnth! I command you; bring back food.”
The dragon turned around, took one final look at Alexei and lifted into the sky.
“Saba?” Alexei glanced back and forth between his trainer and his dragon. “Will… will he obey?”
With a heavy sigh, Saba knelt down to the boy’s level. “Alexei, show me your tattoo.”
Alexei looked up with questions in his eyes but complied. What had once been a bright white dragon breathing ice, complete with scales and wings spread so that it took up a little boy’s wrist and forearm, now was dull grey.
“Is it dirty, Saba?” Alexei rubbed at the mark.
Saba shook his head. “No, Alexei. The tattoo only lasts for five synods. Then we have to refresh it.”
“Then do so!”
Oh, how the childlike faith and trust wrenched at Saba’s heart.
“I wish I could, son. I really do.”
“Why can’t you?”
“I don’t have the supplies. They were stolen from the wing’s den before we left.”
“No!” Alexei wrenched away from Saba and sprinted after his dragon.
“Alexei!” Saba stumbled to his feet and tried to chase the boy down, but his knees ached and soon he was out of breath. “Alexei!” he called, but the child didn’t slow down.
Saba followed but soon the boy was lost in the twists and turns of the craggy landscape. Saba trudged on. He’d long since given up hope that Temuri would return for them, but he’d given a promise to raise the child. And now… Saba shook his head and kept going. Now, the lad was more precious to Saba than ever before—not for his Drakoni bond but because three synods of having no one else to care for or talk to had drawn the two of them closer than father and son.
At last, Saba came upon Alexei. The boy was on his knees in the snow, crying. His little shoulders shook, and great sobs rent the air. “Nagnth! Nagnth… please… come back.”
Saba rested a hand on the boy’s shoulder. “I’m sorry, Alexei.”
Alexei turned to him. “You knew! You knew Nagnth would leave, but you didn’t tell me!” He wrenched away from Saba’s comforting hand and ran back toward their home.
