Faith is a key aspect of Kandi’s books. The more recent ones have had more of a focus on faith than the early ones. See below for a list of books where faith feautred.
Faith-focused Bio
Kandi J Wyatt grew up in a home that went to church every single time the doors were open. In the Mid-West, that meant Sunday School, church, Sunday evening service, and Wednesday night prayer meeting, with any special services thrown in. Some of her earliest memories are of singing Sunday School songs.
When she was four, her brother and her were playing in the sandbox when he asked if she’d ever asked Jesus to be her savior. At that point, something clicked in the heart of the little girl. She realized she hadn’t. Right there, they paused in their activities and prayed. Afterward, she remembers the joy that surged through her as she raced inside to tell anyone who would listen that she had Jesus!
But faith is more than just mountaintop experiences. By age six, she realized there was more to being a believer than having Jesus as Savior. She needed to follow him in believer’s baptism. The problem was she was afraid of going in front of the large church audience, so instead of saying yes, she told God no. Even a six-year-old can be miserable (and probably made everyone else miserable around her) when in disobedience. After a month, she gave in and found relief and strength to do what was so hard.
The faith of a child persisted through Kandi’s life. By fifth grade, after listening to a missionary to the Navajo Indians, she told her mom that she was going to be a missionary when she grew up. That dream stayed with her so that the summer between her junior and senior years in high school, she spent a month with that missionary helping with children’s church, camp, and Vacation Bible School in Winslow, Arizona, the Hopi Reservation, and across the border in New Mexico.
By the time she went to college, she knew she wanted an extended missions trip and signed up for the ARRIBA program through Baptist Mid-Missions. She lived in Ecuador for a year gaining college credit and helping out the missionaries there.
For the past forty-eight years, Kandi has walked with God. There have been ups and downs, chaos and trials, but through it all, the Lord has been her constant comforter. These last few years Kandi has had to dig deep into her faith to keep going. This has filtered into her recent stories as well.
