Myrtle Lake is the lake north of town. Known for its windsurfing and kite-boarding, it’s also a good place to go fishing or get access to the beach and the Pacific Coast Trail that connects with White Cape Point. One interesting point is that the lake is shallow. Rarely is it over four feet deep. Most places it’s only three. This makes it perfect for learning to kite-board or windsurf. You can try it out from the school on the lake.

Kayaking is nice, but it helps if you have a rudder. Otherwise, the wind can push you one way across the lake and you have to pull the kayak around the shore. Not as much fun.

The Real Myrtle Lake

Floras Lake is actually south of Langlois, Oregon. Boice Cope Park provides day use access as well as overnight camping. The Pacific Coast Trail scouts around the lake and heads south to Blacklock Point. If you wish to learn to windsurf or kite-board, you can check in with the Brady’s at the school.
