Family

Family is an important concept that transcends every single story Kandi writes. Most of the ideas are found-family since she moved from her extended family when she was eight and her parents introduced her to a set of friends who became as family.

Family-focused Bio

Kandi J Wyatt married her knight in shining armor thirty years ago—complete with a salute and laying down of arms between her husband and father. Just over a year later, her knight and her played Mary and Joseph in a living nativity scene. Mary was great with child. Kandi’s first child was born the next weekend. Two years later, a little girl joined the family, and sixteen months later, her twin brother. When the youngest was barely a year, her knight’s eight-year-old daughter came to live with them, and Kandi learned first-hand what it is to be the wicked step-mom while juggling the needs of an eight-year-old and three ages four and under. Eventually, she figured out how to balance all four kids, and when the youngest was four, another joined the family.

Surviving on only one income, Kandi wore her early 1990’s Betty Crocker Cookbook out, learning to cook and bake from scratch. Her first argument with her knight in shining armor was over what to fix for dinner. She didn’t like his reply, “Food.” Her sister-in-law helped her out by giving her Taste of Home annual cookbooks, and soon Kandi was able to fix meals with a pinch of this and dash of that.

These days, she’s still enjoying her kids, although they’re all grown up in their twenties, and the bridge has been mended with her step-daughter who’s now in her thirties. A granddaughter now is the toddler at her home over the weekends. The little miss has completely wrapped both Grandma and Grandpa around her finger.
