A Castle from Ashes by Sharon Rose
A Castle from Ashes is book 3 of The Castle in the Wilde series and doesn’t disappoint. (I might not have gotten my post out on time because I was reading the book!) I’ve enjoyed Sharon Rose’s sci-fi duology and was excited when a fantasy came out late in 2020. The fantasy has all the things I loved about her sci-fi–culture, loveable complex characters, and adventure–only in a medieval world of kings and queens and lords and ladies.
A Castle in the Wilde Series
The series consists of three books, a prequel, and a novella. Two neighboring countries as dissimilar as night and day collide along their border. A castle lost to time and strange circumstances is found by the youngest prince of the northern kingdom. Finding a deserted castle, he claims it for his own setting into motion events that change his life and both countries.
A Castle from Ashes
Book 3 follows Thomas, a young man who grew up in Tower Woods which borders the castle in the Wilde. His grandfather was a banished lord, and Thomas had to hide his identity (although with his physical features that’s rather hard). He’s been promoted to Sir Thomas by the king, but he’d much rather remain at the castle in the Wilde than face the changes or get his hopes up that life could be different.
Lord Ivan isn’t known for a gentle spirit. In fact, he’s tormented the ladies with his heartless way of hunting and rumors abound about his mother’s death. That doesn’t stop him from setting his eyes on Lady Sareen, who despises him and finds herself enjoying Sir Thomas’ company more and more. This only adds fuel to Lord Ivan’s hatred of Sir Thomas–a family rivalry that goes back to Thomas’ grandfather.
Starting a new life is always difficult, but when you have to watch your back so it doesn’t get an arrow in it, that makes things twice as difficult. And with an enemy as powerful as Lord Ivan, Thomas never knows what will happen!
Castle in the Wilde Suggested Reading Order
Even though I had the first book on my kindle, I didn’t read it until after book 2 released. That gave me the opportunity to read them in chronological order.
Prequel: A Castle Sealed–Tristan discovers a deserted castle and tries to settle it, but giant cat-creatures as well as gigantic bears don’t want the castle tamed.
Book 1: A Castle Awakened–Tristan’s men rescue a lady from rogues, setting the castle in the Wilde on the path of possible war and jeopardizing Tristan’s heart.
Book 2: A Castle Contended–Can Tristan keep his castle and his heart’s desire?
Novella: A Castle Lost–Go back in time to follow the demise of the Maerton Duchy and learn why Tristan has such a hard time with his neighbor.
Book 3: A Castle from Ashes–Thomas tries to find his way as he moves from Tristan’s castle to his own ancestral home.
About the Author
Sharon Rose started writing when she was seven years old. Okay, My Life as a Flying Squirrel may have had a couple spelling errors, but her classmates loved it.
Plenty of life has happened since that first story, and she’s come to realize the things that fascinate her. People. Communication. Culture. Personality. Viewpoints. Beliefs. Anything that makes each of us beautifully unique. Small wonder that her art spills out in story form.
It was only a matter of time before she just had to share her stories. She publishes fantasy and science fiction because they allow vast spaces to explore. Her stories weave cultures and characters, who are more than they seem to be, into adventures with mystery, romance, and hope.
When she’s not writing or reading, she may be traveling, enjoying gardens, or searching for unique coffee shops with her husband. She lives in Minnesota, USA, famed for its mosquitoes—uh, I mean 10,000 lakes and vibrant seasons.
Where to purchase The Castle in the Wilde Series and more by Sharon Rose
You can find all five books of the series on amazon and in Kindle Unlimited. If you enjoy science fiction, you can check out her duology as well as a novel in short-stories (I’ve featured her work on my blog before as well).
All of Sharon Rose’s work has kept me riveted to the edge of my seat and has always ended on a good note. This was the only assurance I had last night as I was reading A Castle from Ashes before bed and came to a twist I hadn’t expected. I had to leave Thomas without hope! His story stayed with me through the night, and I couldn’t wait to pick it back up this morning. In fact, I’ll be diving in as soon as I post this. So, go grab one of the series and let me know what you think of it!
