My Top 10 (plus 3) Children’s books
As I stated yesterday, this week is Children’s Book Week. So, here are my top picks selected from when I was a child and discovered with my own kids. They are only in the order that they came to mind, not necessarily the order of importance. I don’t think I could put them in an order of importance!
- Jim Kjelgaard books. Big Red wa the first, but there are many more.
- CS Lewis and his Narnia books
- Carolyne Keene and her Nancy Drew books
- Julie Campbell Tatham and her Trixie Beldon series
- Timothy Zahn and The Dragonback series
- Cornelia Funke and Dragon Rider and Inkheart series (for older kids)
- TJ MacHale and Pendragon series again for older kids
- Norton Juster and The Phantom Tollbooth
- Brandon Mull and the Beyonders series
- Dave Berry and Ridley Pearson with Peter and the Starcatcher series
- Walter Farley and his Black Stallion series
- Marguerite Henry and Misty of Chincoteague series and several more horse stories
- Brian Jacques and Redwall series
Well, there you have it. I’ll devote a post to each and add some links where you can find the books, where you can find more information about them, and even compare the books to the movies where applicable. In the meantime, happy reading!
Great list!
Thanks! It was hard to pick just ten especially after I started my brain thinking. I probably missed some.
